Newsflash - Matching Michaela?
The Junior Pot Black tournament is also a great platform for up and coming referees to hone their skills and get a feel for what it’s like to take charge at the Crucible. This year saw new faces Patricia Murphy and 15-year-old Molly Newbold patrolling the baize.
Patricia is now into her second year of training on non-televised Main Tour matches and will referee this year’s JPB final. GCSE student Molly, a more recent recruit, is cutting her teeth on amateur leagues and the Women’s Tour.
They were supervised by Michaela Tabb, herself now a stalwart of the televised Crucible stages of the 888.com World Championship.
Michaela said: “I am so impressed with the standard of these young players. It is phenomenal. They are building breaks and potting long shots that some of those in the Crucible are struggling to get anywhere near. The future of the sport looks very promising.”
Stay with Cuefactor for more on the JPB final, and we’ll be getting to know Michaela, Patricia and Molly a bit better too.
