Easy Maguire

Stephen Maguire 10 - 3 Joe Perry

Stephen Maguire needed just over an hour to wrap up the match.

Returning at 7-2 down, Joe Perry needed a fast start to have any chance of making the last 16.  He had an opportunity in the tenth frame, but his erratic form continued and Maguire moved within two of victory.

The Scot looked on as Perry won the next, but a 56 in the 12th helped restore the six-frame gap.

That finished off the world number 18, who looked resigned to his fate.  He could have extended the match beyond the mid session interval, but he missed an easy blue.

As in so much of the match, Maguire won the frame without doing anything spectacular.  His solid, consistent play was more than enough, and on this form he will be a tough man to beat.
