Selby Reduces Stephens Lee-d

Stephen Lee 5 - 4 Mark Selby

Mark Selby played well to drag himself back into a match that appeared to be slipping away from him.

The first four days of the tournament have seen numerous comebacks by players who looked on the brink of total collapse, and this match was no different.

Stephen Lee cued smoothly from the very beginning, and he was rewarded with some heavy scoring.  The world number 10 threatened to crush Selby as he confidently knocked in a 126 break in the second frame on his way to a 5-0 lead.

Selby got on the board with a 51 in the sixth, and gained momentum with a break of 84 in the seventh to reduce his arrears to three.

The 23-year-old won the next frame thanks in part to a snooker on the yellow, and he got right back in the match by taking the ninth.

With three matches already going to a deciding frame, don’t be surprised if this goes to the wire when the match resumes this afternoon.  Peter Ebdon awaits the winner in the next round.
