Anthony Hamilton 10 – 3 Marco Fu
Anthony Hamilton claimed a place in the last 16 by comfortably beating an off-colour Marco Fu.
The match was hauled off two frames early on day one because of slow play, and the lethargic feel continued for most of the second session.
Both players had been suffering from illness, but it was Fu who came out the brightest. He won the first frame, and then suggested a fight back was on the cards with a dazzling 107.
It proved a false dawn for the Hong Kong player, as Hamilton showed a strong nerve to snatch four frames in a row to win 10-3.
Hamilton played the better snooker and now meets Ian McCulloch, Graeme Dott’s conqueror, in the second round.
