Since becoming a world ranking event in 1998/99, the China Open has only been won by four players.

The Class of '92 - Higgins, O'Sullivan and Williams have dominated winning all except one title which went to Ding Junhui, who beat Stephen Hendry in front of a television audience reported to have exceeded 100 million viewers.
