A

Above
Used to describe the position of the cue ball. It is above the object ball if it is off-straight on the top cushion side of the imaginary line for a straight pot (e.g. "he'll want to finish above the black in order to go into the reds"). It is also common to use the term high instead.  NB – this is often confused with the term “below”, particularly with televised snooker, as the table is viewed in reverse.

Action
The response of the cue ball, usually from the application of backspin.

Aiming line
An imaginary line drawn from the desired path an object ball is to be sent (usually the center of pocket) and the center of the object ball.

Angled ball
Cue ball left in the jaws of a pocket so that the ball on cannot be struck directly.

Arc
Used to describe the behaviour of the cue ball, after it has struck an object ball near a cushion with extreme top spin.

Around the angles
A shot in which the cue ball or object ball are played off two or more cushions in order to achieve desired position.
