POT BLACK CUP
October 6
Sheffield City Hall
Defending Champion – Mark Williams
Field – Top 7 plus champion
This one-frame shoot out has as much tradition attached to it as any other tournament. In many respects Pot Black was responsible for the birth of professional snooker as it is today, and although the matches are only one frame all of the players want to get their name on one of the oldest trophies in the sport.
Played at the RAC Club in Pall Mall, London for the past two seasons, the Pot Black Cup moves to snooker’s spiritual home in Sheffield for the first time this time around.
Mark Williams defends the title he won by beating John Higgins in the final, making a magnificent 119 break in first and deciding frame.
Ronnie O’Sullivan withdrew from the event last year so we will have to wait and see if the ‘Rocket’ takes his place at Sheffield City Hall.
Neil Robertson makes his debut this time around and we are tipping him to follow his fellow Aussie, the late Eddie Charlton who won the title in 1972, 1973, and 1980.
