MAPLIN UK CHAMPIONSHIP
December 3 - 16
Telford International Centre
Defending Champion – Peter Ebdon
Field – Top 16 plus 32 qualifiers
Regarded by the players as the second most prestigious title behind the world championship. The longer matches have tended to provide a high profile winner with Hendry and Davis winning a total of ten between them.
Ebdon was simply unstoppable last year but we doubt the Dubai-based player will be able to reproduce that kind of form when ranking snooker makes a return to Telford.
However, the World and UK double has been done before so we are going for Higgins to claim the title, with Murphy a serious contender and obviously if O’Sullivan is in the mood, he won’t be far away.
If you’re looking for an outsider to come through then how about Welshman Matthew Stevens. As long as he comes through qualifying, the former winner will be determined to re-establish himself in the top-16.
